This week my latest book Skillful Advanced is finally out! Actually, the proper name is Skillful Listening and Speaking 4, and it completes the Macmillan Skillful series of academic skills titles.
Here’s what the website says:
Every student needs top class reading, writing, listening and speaking skills to succeed at an academic level; Skillful focuses on each of these skills to give presentation, instant practice and complete immersion in that language skill.
It offers students the opportunity to develop language skills by presenting them with ideas from today’s world, while building critical thinking skills that are vital for academic success.
Here’s what I have to say about this book:
This book was the result of over a year’s hard labour with fellow co-author Mark D C McKinnon and the help of the editors and team at Macmillan as well as the series editor Dorothy Zemach. I’m really pleased with the result and the texts in there: some very interesting pieces on group dynamics theory, Game theory, Memory and Smell, the Trans-Siberian railway, why people climb mountains and tons more!
Plus there are regular critical thinking skills activities focusing on things like: inferring attitude, anticipating conclusions based on evidence, recognizing implicit assumptions and others.
All in all, a good package for your advanced learners wishing to go to higher education studies in English.
